Today on Kelly's Korner she has a show us your life marriage advice for others to give their advice regarding this topic. (Click on blog title to go to this blog)
I also share her sentiment that I by no means have it ALL figured out. However, I DO feel like my experiences in our 6 year marriage might help others who are struggling now. If you have read previous blogs of mine you know I am a big believer in the fact that our lives have seasons. Its biblical therefore I believe it to be true.
"There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under the heavens:
2 a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,
3 a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,
4 a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
5 a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,
6 a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,
7 a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,
8 a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace."
Ecclesiastes 3:1-8
I believe this is true for everything in our lives.SO ofcourse I believe this holds true for marriage. Currently my husband and I are going through a great time of love and peace. WE are very in tune with each other and each others emotions. Are we always like this? Definitely NOT! I am not ashamed of what we have been through. WE have gone through an intense period of mending and deciding to give up or throw away. Yes in only 6 years. But, I believe this had made us stronger.
The best advice I can give anyone in their own marriage is this:
Forgive as Christ forgave you
(Bear with each other and forgive whatever problems you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. Colossians 3:13)
and...
Seek His will before your own
(33But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Matthew 6:33)
Is that too simple? No, God's intent for us to follow him is to be obedient even when we dont "feel" like it, sometimes that is very difficult to do.
So, if you can stop dwelling on the negative long enough to listen to God's will for your life it may surprise you. If you can be obedient to his will I believe he will add the salt to your life!
I can say this has been true for me thus far. There was a time I thought my marriage was going to end. I was so beside myself all I could do was pray and read my bible. God revealed to me to pray through this. Unaware of the outcome I did this. HE brought us through it. IT also brought me closer to the Lord. Hmm.... I love how he can always use anything for His good and His purpose. I dont believe it was His plan for us to be outside of his will for us. But I believe he drew us back in and that is so amazing.
I can honestly say I am happier having stuck things out instead of jumping ship. My husband is worth it. I thought that the day I married him and I KNOW that for sure now. I believe as our marriage grows my love grows deeper and I feel deeply and richly blessed to have Dustin as my partner in life. :)
